Bingham Library to be refurbished

A £540,000 project to improve Bingham Library has been proposed by Nottinghamshire County Council. The project to refurbish the building will begin towards the end of the year, once the health centre has moved out of the sit into its new premises on Newgate Street. The money would go towards creating an extention into the current health centre and increase the range of books and computer facilities as well as a gallery which can be used by artiststo exhibit their work. A Surestart Children’s Centre will also be built into the library and they currently leases a premises in the Market Place. Surestart will be holding activities in the library to promote their service which is open to families with young children. Mr Derek Higton, service director for youth, families and cultural services at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “There are longstanding plans to refurbish and extend the existing Bingham Library in Eaton Place. “It is proposed this would happen once the health centre vacates the site at the end of 2013. It is National Dementia Awareness Week this week and Home Instead Senior Care will be having a stand in Bingham Market on Thursday 23rd May to raise awareness of dementia within the Bingham community. They are also looking for 10 new Part Time CareGivers who could spare 4-10 hours a week to work with their clients to retain their independence in their own home. You need no experience but you will need your own transport. They provide a non-medical home care service to the elderly to ensure they retain independence in their own home. It is a non-rushed SAME CARER service to provide continuity to the person. They offer companionship, home help & personal care services. Judo Club Set to Launch in Bingham

Vale Judo Club, one of the largest judo clubs in the East Midlands, will be setting up classes in Bingham Leisure Centre. The club will open its doors to juniors on Thursday 6th June this year and will be offering classes for boys and girls aged 7-10 years and 11-16 years old from 5.00pm -7.00pm. All the classes will suit any child who wants to start taking part in the sport or who want to focus of helping others build confidence, get fit and build friendships. Vale Judo Club will also be running two holiday courses on 30th May. The camps will help judoka – judo players – learn new techniques and fun judo drills. The morning course runs from 10.30am – 13.30pm open to 7 – 10 year olds and the afternoon course will run from 1.00pm – 3.00pm, which are appropriate for beginners and experienced judo players. The holiday courses will be held at Vale Judo’s permanent dojo in Oakham and will cost £7.50 per person. So why not go along? You do not have to have a judo suit or any experience, you just have to have fun and enjoy the experience. Toot Hill School Extra are running their Summer School again this year. It involves children taking part in 4 activities alongside friends and professional teachers. The Summer School will run for 8 days in the first week of the summer holidays this year offering a variety of educational art based activities.
