Bingham Penguins Is Now A Swim21 Swimming Club

We received confirmation in January that Bingham Penguins was successfully accredited by the National Swim21 panel in December and is now a Swim21 club. The Swim21 programme was modified in 2013, and the ASA informed us that we are one of the first clubs in the country to achieve the new Swim21 Essential club mark.  We are also checking with the ASA as we believe we are the only disabled swimming club in the UK to be Swim21 accredited. On Sunday 23rd March the past President of Nottinghamshire ASA, Bill Hopkins, presented the Swim21 certificate to our Swim 21 Coordinator, Mike Pollard during the Club swimming session. Swim21 is a quality mark for the development of effective, ethical and sustainable ASA affiliated swimming clubs. It promotes good governance and ensures the quality of swimming provision within the club as well as promoting club sustainability.   Mike Pollard has been leading Bingham Penguins towards Swim21 for a number of years and it truly has been a team effort, with most of the poolside team and committee involved at various points.  Policies have been written, training plans created, staff development plans put in place, as well as a four year development plan and financial plan.  The commitment of Mike and the team to see it through for the benefit of the club is outstanding, especially as everyone at the club are volunteers. Having Swim 21 accreditation gives us access to club development tools, network and funding opportunities, as well as discounts on training and equipment. It was a really nice evening for the club – the presentation was followed by a fun swim and then a big cake. (On...
