EU Threat to UK School Sovereignty

EU plans to press ahead with its bid to dictate curriculum in schools across Europe have been condemned by East Midlands Euro MP Andrew Lewer MBE. Speaking ahead of next week’s (Tuesday 12) Strasbourg Plenary session that will push through the proposal Andrew Lewer said: “This is yet another example of the EU-project attempts to secure further power and influence over our lives – now to include our schools.” And despite calls for a full debate on the “Learning EU in Schools” report, no debate is programmed. Over the last few months, Andrew has challenged the EU’s desire to interfere with the sovereignty of our schools. “It is unacceptable for the EU to meddle with what we – and other member states – teach in our classrooms,” said Andrew. “Our schools and our curriculum are our business. We do not want to further the EU’s  quest for a united states of Europe by filling our classrooms with EU propaganda.” He added: “Unfortunately, this is the way the EU works. They bombard us with seemingly benign reports where the core nature is buried in the detail. Ultimately, it is all aimed at securing an expanded – more powerful – role for the EU. “No one can argue with the importance of countries working together in the fight against violent extremism which is also included in the report.
