Nottinghamshire County Council have announced that they plan to close the household waste recycling centre at Langar as part of their 2014 budget cuts.
The centre is a well used facility for residents of Langar, Barnstone, Cotgrave, The Cropwells, Bingham, Radcliffe on Trent and other villages in the area. It is the only facility in the area that is well used, efficient and user friendly.
These plans have come to light to local residents although the county council has committed to increasing recycling over the next few years and to make these sorts of facilities available to everyone.
Although cuts have to be made by the council, the closure of the centre will cause some inconvenience to residents and users across the villages and possible encourage fly tipping.
Councillor Richard Butler, who represents the Cotgrave division, has said “When I was the Cabinet member for the Environment up until last May, if this had been suggested to me, I would have thrown the idea out straightaway!
“Closing it will not actually save money in the greater scheme of things.”
A petition has be uploaded this website to help keep the recycling site open. With nearly 400 supporters already, it seems like this centre is a big part of recycling.
