Local Bingham publisher and provider of French and Spanish children’s language learning resources, La Jolie Ronde Languages for Children, has scooped a national education award for their primary French and Spanish Theme Day Series.
The Primary Teacher Update Awards celebrate the very best in primary educational resources, books, publications, creative play and other children’s teaching resources.
This year La Jolie Ronde’s French and Spanish Theme Day Series for Key Stage 2, for children aged 7-11 years old, was honoured with a “Gold Award”.
Ideal for the whole school to participate in the range of Theme Days are a fun and worthwhile language learning activity. Ideal for the non-specialist language teacher, all the work is already planned and prepared giving all teachers across the school the support required to provide a comprehensive base for a day’s work. Beginning with an assembly which brings all pupils together, the topic for the day is introduced in a thought provoking and fun manner. The children return to their classrooms to undertake a variety of activities, they then return at the end of the day to a celebratory assembly to share their successes and chat about their own activities, experiences and showcase their developing language skills. There are 5 topics to choose from; Around my School, Sport & The Olympics, Spring & Easter, Spanish Fiestas and Bastille Day. The Theme Days use everyday modern French, Spanish and English language which pupils can relate to.
Each product entered was tried and tested in at least two separate schools or settings by teachers and pupils. Testers then gave a mark against a given set of criteria: appeal to children at start and end of the trial; durability; adaptability; educational value; play value; value for money and more.
Scoring a fantastic 90.5% the testers said: “This teaching resource is really easy to use and provides everything you need to run a themed day for learning French or Spanish. It contains a teacher’s guide, CD and visual resources and comes in a nice carry case which is very easy to store away. The children loved the activities and asked to use it every day! The activities are safe to do and the age range is perfect, even our 4 year olds wanted to use it! We have recommended it to parents already. Our children really enjoyed speaking another language”
Mala Henry Marketing Manager for La Jolie Ronde said “We are thrilled that our Theme Day Series has received the recognition it so greatly deserves and to have been awarded a Gold, shows the exceptional quality of this teaching resource. It is such an exciting time for languages particularly with the new Modern Foreign Languages Programme of Study curriculum requirements, that all pupils from age 7 are to be taught a foreign language from last September, we feel language learning can only go from strength to strength, she added.
The Award was presented to Mala Henry (Marketing Manager) by the Primary Teacher Update Editor Karen Faux.
